White noise generator
Play white noise in this tab, free, with no ads and no YouTube loop. Equal energy per hertz makes it hiss like a vent or radio static, which covers speech better than darker colors. This page stays on white: Sleep Static, Fan Hiss, Rain, Nursery, a 10-band EQ, and a timer through 8, 12, or 24 hours. Nothing is uploaded.

White noise presets on this page
Each chip in the player sets Tone and EQ. Volume and the timer stay yours. Tap a card, then use it in the player above.
Sleep Static
Treble pulled back for overnight play. Pair with an 8 hour, 10 hour, or 12 hour timer, or leave the timer Off.
Use in playerFan Hiss
Neutral white with a little less air. Close to a box fan or vent, not a field recording of a fan.
Use in playerSound Mask
Bright static aimed at speech and sudden room noise. Raise volume only as far as you could talk over.
Use in playerOffice Static
Speech-band lift for open offices and thin walls. Cafe is the next chip if you want a slightly warmer mask.
Use in playerSoft
Gentler highs for winding down. Same color, less sting at 8 kHz and 16 kHz.
Use in playerStudy
A little more 2 kHz to 4 kHz for reading and work. People also try this for focus. This site does not diagnose ADHD.
Use in playerRain
Mids lifted so the hiss leans toward steady rain. Still synthesized white, not a rainstorm recording.
Use in playerStorm
Some low energy plus rain mids. Thunder-and-rain searches land here. Distant thunder as a rumble lives on brown.
Use in playerWaves
Lower mids for a wash closer to surf. Ocean recordings are a later category.
Use in playerNursery
Treble cut for naps. Watch the child and keep the speaker quiet and across the room.
Use in playerPets
Highs cut harder for dogs and cats. Keep volume low and stop if they look stressed.
Use in playerCafe
Warmer speech-band mask for a coffee shop or shared table. Not the clothing brand White Noise Coffee.

What white noise is
White noise is random sound with about the same power in each hertz band, the spectrum described as white noise. To the ear the top octaves dominate, so you hear hiss, not rumble. Pink noise falls about 3 dB per octave and sits closer to rain. Brown noise falls about 6 dB per octave and sits in the bass. RelaxEnd synthesizes the signal in this tab with a worklet. There is no looped file and no upload. Darken it with Tone (Warm, Soft) or the 10-band EQ from 31 Hz to 16 kHz. A sleep timer can run from 15 minutes to 24 hours.
White noise for sleep
People use white noise as a sleep bed because a steady hiss can make door slams and traffic less startling. A 2022 review of sound as a sleep aid found mixed results and notes that many listeners still pick it. This page is not a black-screen YouTube video. Use Black screen in the nav for a true-black overlay while the generator keeps playing. There is no separate alarm clock.
- Sleep Static or Soft, then 8 hours, 10 hours, or 12 hours on the timer, or Off for all night
- Fade out in Customize if you want the last minute to ease down
- Headphones work. Start quieter than speakers. Stop if your ears feel tired
- This is live synthesis, not a 10 hour YouTube track or an app with ads
White noise for focus
The hiss can sit over chatter so your own work stays in front. A 2024 ADHD noise meta-analysis found a small task benefit for white and pink noise in ADHD groups. Evidence is mixed. Use what lets you stay with the page.
- Study for reading and long concentration blocks. Office Static if the room is talky
- Cafe if you want a slightly warmer mask than Office Static
- Headphones in a noisy room. Meditation bell in Customize if you want a gentle interval
- People also search this for studying and ADHD. RelaxEnd does not treat those
White noise for babies
Some caregivers use a low hiss at nap time to cover household noise. Infants hear more high-frequency energy than adults, so volume matters more than the preset name. This is not pediatric advice.
- Start with Nursery. Soft is the next quieter chip if Nursery still feels present
- Keep the speaker across the room, well below talking level. Do not put a phone in the crib
- Set a timer (1 hour, 8 hours) so it does not run past the nap unless you mean it to
- Watch the child. Stop if they startle, seem unsettled, or you are unsure. Pink noise is the usual gentler baby pick on this site if white feels too sharp.
White noise frequencies
White noise is a flat band, not one pitch. On a linear plot the energy is even; to hearing the highs take over, which is why it hisses. See colors of noise for how the family is named. A box fan is close to this color with some mechanical rumble added. 432 Hz is a sine wave, not white noise. Shape the spectrum with Tone and the 10-band EQ, or open the noise generator to compare colors in one lab.
How to play white noise here
- Press Play. Audio starts in this tab. Nothing is streamed from a file.
- Pick a preset. Choose Sleep Static, Fan Hiss, Rain, Study, Nursery, or another white chip. Each one sets Tone and EQ for this color only.
- Set volume. Move volume to a level you could talk over. Loud white noise can fatigue hearing the same as any other sound.
- Shape Tone and EQ. Optional. Drag Tone toward Warm or Soft if the hiss is too bright, or open Equalizer and cut 8 kHz and 16 kHz.
- Set a sleep timer. Optional. Open Customize for chips from 15 minutes to 24 hours (including 8 h, 10 h, and 12 h), fade in or out, or a meditation bell.

FAQ
- What is white noise? What does it mean?
- White noise is a random signal with roughly equal power per hertz. The name comes from white light, which mixes many wavelengths. You hear a steady hiss. RelaxEnd generates that signal in this tab. It is not a recording of a fan or rain.
- What does white noise sound like?
- Radio static, an air vent, or a box fan with the motor rumble removed. Sound Mask is brighter. Fan Hiss is closer to a vent. Soft and Sleep Static pull the sting out of the top. Rain and Waves tilt the mids; they are still this color, not field recordings.
- What does white noise do? What is it good for?
- A constant hiss can make sudden sounds harder to notice, so people use it to cover speech, sleep, study, or sit in a loud room. It does not soundproof a space. Try Sound Mask for talk, Sleep Static at night, Study at a desk. RelaxEnd does not treat medical conditions.
- How does white noise work? What is a white noise generator or maker?
- A generator (sometimes called a maker or machine) produces that flat hiss on a speaker. Hardware units do it with analog circuits or a chip. This page does the same job in software: a worklet outputs new samples while the tab is open. Press Play. There is no loop seam.
- What frequency is white noise?
- It is not one pitch. Power is spread across the audible band. On this EQ that is 31 Hz through 16 kHz. 432 Hz is a sine tone, not white noise. Cut 8 kHz and 16 kHz if the top is too bright.
- Why is white noise relaxing? What does it do to your brain?
- A steady band can make a quiet room feel less empty and make spikes (a door, a shout) less of a jolt. That is why some people call it soothing. Published work on sleep and attention is mixed. This page is a generator, not a clinical study.
- Does white noise help you sleep?
- Many people sleep with it because the hiss covers household noise. A 2022 sleep-aid review found mixed results. Sleep Static, then 8 h, 10 h, or 12 h, or leave the timer Off. Use Black screen in the nav if you want the display true black. This is not medical advice.
- Is sleeping with white noise bad?
- White noise is sound. High volume can fatigue hearing, same as any other audio. Keep it at a level you could talk over, including on headphones, and stop if it bothers you. Leave the timer Off for all-night play, or pick a chip so playback stops. This page is not medical advice.
- Does white noise help you focus or study?
- Some people concentrate better when chatter is covered. A 2024 ADHD noise meta-analysis found a small task benefit for white and pink noise in ADHD groups. Results vary. Use Study or Office Static and headphones in a noisy room. This site does not diagnose or treat ADHD.
- What is the difference between brown noise and white noise?
- White is flat and hissy. Brown noise (Brownian, sometimes red) puts most energy in the bass, about 6 dB down per octave, so it rumbles. Neither is healthier. If white feels too sharp at night, try brown. If you need speech masking, stay on white.
- What is the difference between pink noise and white noise?
- Pink noise falls about 3 dB per octave, so mids stay in the mix and many people hear rain. White keeps the highs, so it hisses more and covers speech better. If white is too bright for study, try pink.
- Is white noise bad for babies? When should you stop?
- A steady hiss can cover household spikes, which is why some infants settle with it. Infants hear more high-frequency energy than adults. Keep the speaker across the room, well below talking, never in the crib. Nursery cuts the top. Use a timer so it does not run past the nap unless you mean it to. Stop if the child startles or you are unsure. There is no single age to quit; fade it as they sleep through household noise. This is not pediatric advice. RelaxEnd does not treat colic.
- Can white noise damage hearing? Is it bad for your ears?
- Any loud sound can damage hearing if it is too hot for too long. This color is not a special hazard, and it is not proven safe at any volume. Keep playback moderate, on headphones too. Stop if your ears ring or feel tired. This page is not medical advice.
- Do dogs or cats like white noise?
- Some pets settle when household spikes are covered. Others find the hiss annoying. Pets cuts the highs. Keep volume low, watch for stress (pacing, hiding, pinned ears), and do not use it in place of veterinary care.
- How do I play white noise on iPhone all night?
- Open this page in Safari, press Play, pick Sleep Static, and set the timer to Off, 8 h, or 10 h. Add the page to your Home Screen if you want an icon. Keep the tab open; iOS may pause audio when you leave the browser. This is not the White Noise Lite app. Alexa and Google Home do not run this lab as a skill.
- Can Alexa play white noise all night?
- Echo speakers have their own white noise skills. This lab runs in a browser tab, not as an Alexa skill. For all-night play here, leave the timer Off on a phone or laptop that stays awake.
- Is a fan white noise?
- A box fan is close: broadband hiss plus motor rumble. Fan Hiss on this page is the synthesized version without the motor. Airplane cabin sound is usually darker; brown's Airplane chip is the closer cabin drone if Fan Hiss feels too thin.
- Is this a YouTube loop, a 10-hour track, or an app with ads?
- Live synthesis, not a YouTube upload, Celestial White Noise video, remastered MP3, or paywalled app. There are no ads in the audio. Play as long as the tab stays open, or set 8, 10, 12, or 24 hours on the timer. Black screen in the nav blacks the display while audio continues.
